The importance of self care
Hey and welcome to Friday. So this morning I dragged my ample posterior out of bed to make an 8am appointment with my amazing hairdresser Jo. At the time I asked myself “why on earth am I doing this?!” After a week where the temperatures have made my sweat, sweat and sleep has been mixed in with dreams of being slowly roasted to death getting out of bed on a cooler morning seemed so counter intuitive.
Then within ten minutes of being in the sleek and stylish salon which is Goldbird’s I realise why I do this. OK so my hair needs attention but I realise as I sit here that not as much as my sense of self and the connection with other people, other women. Whilst Jo works her talents on my now well conditioned hair, we talk about life and the love and the pain it brings. I feel heard, connected to sensitive people and knowing that I walk out of Goldbirds with my hair looking fabulous (arrogant but true - Sammy does a blow dry that turns me into a goddess) my soul also feels like it has a brush up and lightening too.
It leaves me reflecting that as I start out on my new adventure I hope the people who come to polished will feel the same way too. I hope that people see that self care is more than just fabulous nails but is also time for yourself, time for reflection, connection and a bit of a reset. So my message today is whether it’s hair, nails or just quiet seat with your thoughts, take care of yourself it makes the world better x
